There are two ways to change your nickname on discord and I will be briefing both of them.

In case you have trouble changing nicknames on discord, I will also share the solution for that at the end of this guide.

NOTE:- You may not have permission to change the nickname on every discord server.

Method 1 – Change Discord Nickname with Slash Command

This is one of the easiest ways to change your nickname on any discord server.

Discord has a couple of options that work through the slash command and changing nicknames is one of them.

Follow below easy steps below to change the name on any discord server.

Open your discord either through the application or from the web.
From the left-hand servers list, open the server where you want to change your nickname.
Now in the server open any channel where you have permission to send messages which will be most probably general or chat.
In the chatbox type, the command /nick give space and then type your desired nickname.
So for example, if I want my nickname SebRauf I will type /nick SebRauf.

You may first try this in your own created server to make sure you are following the right command.

Method 2 – Change Discord Nickname from Server Settings

This is another method or an option for you to change your nickname on discord. Follow the easy steps to change your discord name on the server.

Open Discord application or through the web and make sure you are logged in with your account.
From the left-hand servers list choose the server where you want to change your nickname.
Click on the server name and choose “Edit Server Profile” from the drop-down menu.

Launch your discord application on your phone.
From the left-hand servers list choose the server where you want to change your nickname.
Now tap on the server name on the top and then tap on “Edit Server Profile”.
Here the very first option that you will find will be of Nickname. Tap on the box and type your desired nickname for this server.

Open your Discord and make sure you are logged into your account.
Click on the settings gear ⚙️ icon located at the very left-hand bottom.

Can’t change the nickname on the discord server

There are many discord servers that disable the nickname permission on their server.

So if you go to their server edit server profile section you will find that Nickname is disabled and is not highlighted. In this case, you can’t do anything and can only ask the owner or admins to give permission or some special roles.

If the nickname option is highlighted and still you can change the nickname then better try using another nickname or restart discord.

How to change other people’s nicknames on discord

If you are the owner of the discord server you can change other people’s nicknames. But you cannot change the nicknames of others on any other discord server.

There are a few bots that you can look for to change people’s nicknames on the server as this cannot be done through the slash command.
